Scarborough (1RTR) Branch Visit To The NMA – 27 July 2024

Saturday the 27th of July on a warm, sunny day, a total gathering of 70 Scarborough branch members and their guests made their way to the National Memorial Arboretum to recognise the ending of the Korea War in 1953.  The First was the only complete RTR to deploy to Korea and over many years has remembered the war by holding a short Korea Day service on the the 27th July.

The day included guided tours of the beautiful arboretum grounds on the Land Train, followed by a much enjoyed lunch in the NMA Aspects restaurant.  To round off the visit the branch came together at the RTR Memorial Garden to remember the Korea War with a reading of the Korea Message.  A minute of silence was then held to remember all those members of the Regiment who now rest easy in the Green Fields beyond.  The minute silence was initiated and ended with the sounding of our own Korea Bell, a miniature replica of the bell that continues to hang on its Torii in the care of the current Regiment.  A great day was had by all and will now become a regular event in the Scarborough Branch calendar.
