Regimental Property Update

01 October 2014

P2

 Gentlemen,

I am writing with an update on items of Regimental property designated for disposal. Since my last update, the ‘viewing' of property took place on Sat 28 Jun in Bovington during the Tank Museum's ‘Tank Fest' weekend. The attached photos give an idea of the items for disposal. In spite of advanced advertising, widespread flyers throughout the Tank Fest crowd and PA system announcements during the day, only a few visited the display. Shortly afterwards the property was moved by the Regiment to the auctioneers ‘Lawrences of Crewkerne'. I should add that over the last few months several items have been withdrawn and returned to those who had originally presented them. As previously stated, the intention of the Regimental Property Working Group was that all items that did not have a personal connection should appear in Lawrences' autumn sales in October. Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding between the Regiment and Lawrences, those items of relatively low value, i.e. under £150, were sold in a general weekday sale in early Jul, which was not an ‘online sale'.  After all the care and attention we have given to doing this right, it is really unfortunate that this has happened, but there is, I'm afraid, nothing that we can do about it now.  The £3500 income raised from the sale will be directed towards property renovation in the Regiment as originally intended. It is also apparent that many of the items bought in Jul are now appearing on eBay but very few appear to have been bought.

Those items still to be sold will appear in the following auctions with an ‘online' bidding facility:

  • Oct 14th (Silver): lots 347, 351, 355-356, 358-359, 361-367, 371-376, 378-388 (30 items) - e-catalogue appeared online at www.lawrences.co.uk on Mon 29 Sep.
  • Oct 17th (Pictures): lots 2172-2178 (7 items) - e-catalogue appeared online at www.lawrences.co.uk on Mon 29 Sep.
