Cenotaph Parade Sunday 18 November 2012

25 September 2012

As you know, this year the Regiment will be celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Battle of Cambrai. Formal celebrations will take place in France over the weekend 17th/18th November and no doubt will be attended by many Association members.

Unfortunately, the celebration in France clashes with our annual march to the Cenotaph, which will also take place on Sunday 18th November. This is unavoidable, due to a long standing event in Cambrai, happening over the weekend originally earmarked by the Regiment.

Post-WW2, we were granted the privilege of parading separately at the Cenotaph, on the Sunday closest to 17th November. It is an honour which I think you would agree must be preserved, but were numbers to fall dramatically this year due to the clash, then questions might be asked of its future.

I would ask you therefore, to encourage those branch members and their families who are not going to France, to make a particular effort to be on parade, or in support.

As usual the Regiment will form up on Horseguards no later than 1030. However, there will be no church service afterwards, nor will the reception which usually follows at the Vintners’ Livery Company, be held this year. However, the usual meet at the Barley Mow, Horseferry Road, will continue as normal.

                                                                                    Yours sincerely,

R W M McAfee
