6 RTR Veteran Derrick Rex

10 December 2015

Derrick Rex, a 6 RTR soldier who saw action in a number of conflicts including the Korean war was spotted on a social media feed by a Greater Manchester Police officer who offered to help him travel to London to pay his respects to fallen comrades. Soldiers from BADGER were alerted to this generous offer and leapt at the opportunity to meet with and host the RTR war veteran in the capital yesterday. The morning started with a short ceremony at the Korean War memorial outside the MOD and was attended by the Minister of State for the Armed Forces and the Korean Defence Attaché. The military and police contingent together with Derrick then visited the RTR memorial and No. 10 Downing Street before sitting down to lunch and exchanging stories. It was refreshing to learn that soldiers are soldiers no matter the era and that some things never change! An absolutely cracking day was had by all.
